Restoration House Success Stories*

Bill's Story

Bill knows Restoration House, Inc. well after eight years of history. His early life in a severely dysfunctional household with absent parents who were not able to provide good guidance meant he did not develop positive life skills. His street friends influenced his choices that lead to repeated criminal behavior resulting in significant prison time. Bill was ordered to Restoration House by his parole officer in 2012 following his time served. Soon, he began to engage with community peers with similar life experiences.  RH asked Bill to use his life experience in general housing maintenance, yard work, and remodeling. Bill became a true asset to the program where he learned and shared a sense of community support, positive socialization and the importance of purpose. After six years of positive participation, he was asked to be a House Manager. After his hard-fought period of recovery, the offer surprised and delighted him. Although he was nervous at the beginning with the new responsibility to mentor others, he managed his responsibilities with high reviews.  The success of Restoration House is due to its supportive community atmosphere, encouragement for honesty, and self-development. Bill knows Restoration House, Inc. and understands these core program components have helped him remain a contributing member of the community. His natural and focused interaction with the other residents is a great example of Restoration House, Inc.'s successful peer to peer managed program.

Alan's Story

Alan lived at Restoration House following some adjudicated time. After a long struggle with drinking, he experienced both the program’s support and working together as a community. He developed a personal goal of opening his own painting business with his son. Restoration House provided the opportunity to make good decisions and that led to him successfully launching his business while actively working on his Recovery.

Robert's Story

Robert lived at Restoration House for a few years following a chaotic life and subsequent incarceration. At the House, after working on his recovery from alcohol abuse in the communal setting, he began to set his sights on a personal goal - to learn the plumbing trade! With the program’s support, he was interviewed by a local plumbing firm and was subsequently selected for an apprenticeship opportunity. Today, Robert recently purchased his own home and has developed a reputation around the community as a reputable plumber. He often stops in at Restoration House to help with the older home’s upkeep challenges or to just say hello. He continues to thank the program for his Recovery and stability.
